What fabrics do you use?
Tourmaline's garments are made with these fabrics and blends. All fabrics are compostable/biodegrabale.
Silk Charmeuse
Our charmeuse is sourced from a manufacturer in Korea. The factory abides by the highest standards of of environmental regulations. While silk requires very little energy to produce the silk work is killed in the process thus making silk not vegan.
Silk Habotai
Our habotai is sourced from a second hand supplier. What we have is considered deadstock.
Cupro
Cupro is produced from a cotton manufacturing byproduct known as linter. Linter was waste until a technique was found to create it into a very soft breathable fabric. While cupro is created using harsh chemicals our cuprol is created in a closed loop system in Korea.
Tencel/Cotton
Our tencel and tencel/cotton blend is sourced from a second hand supplier which is considered deadstock as well. Tencel is sourced from certified sustainable wood sources and made in a closed loop system.
Hemp/Silk
Hemp is considered a regenerative fiber in that it uses a small amount of water to grow, restores soil health and, doesn't require pesticides and much more.
How are the garments dyed?
Tourmaline's garments are dyed from washfast and lightfast sources that have been used for centuries.
Many of our dyes are sourced from farms all over the world like madder from India, cochineal from Mexico and indigo from Indonesia. Some plant dyes are home grown such as our weld, indigo, marigold, cosmos and were always adding more.
We dye in very small batches especially for our multicolor pieces. Each garment is then washed before being shipped to you.
Do you offer custom work?
We do! If you see a style in a colorway from another garment you like we would be happy to make it for you. We also will accept dyes request not based on previous styles.
If you have white garments as home you would like dyed we can work with you on refreshing your old pieces.
Feel free to reach out with any ideas or references you may have!
How do I wash the garments?
Laundering
Naturally dyed garments must be washed with care. Treat all garments as if they are silk. We advise you use a PH neutral soap such as 7th Generation or Dr. Bronners for your laundry detergent. Wash in cold or warm water on a low cycle.
Silk items should be line tried or tumble dried with low heat. Cupro and cotton items can be dried low to medium heat.
Cupro acts similarly to cotton as it is a cotton by product so if garments come ou too the dryer looking a tad smaller, ironing or wearing will make the garment resume it usual fit.
Spot Clean
If you spill anything on your garment please grab a cloth and dab with water to remove contaminants.
Do not use stain removers or bleach pens. Detergent can be dabbed over the stain to assist removal.
Colors will shift with acidic foods such as lemon so it is best not to wear naturally dyed garments while cooking.
Do you accept returns?
We do! As we are a new brand we want to make sure you are happy with our garments and always welcome your feedback.
If anything is not right such as the fit or the style just does not suit you you have 7 days to ship the items back.
Return shipping will be covered by the buyer.
